A 7-year-old boy that was bullied for having two different colored eyes and a cleft lip has found a best friend and soul mate in a shelter cat with the exact same conditions.
Madden was often bullied in school because of his cleft palate and complete heterochromia iridium — a rare condition that causes his eyes to be two different colors. Only one percent of the world’s population is affected.
Madden’s mom, Christina wrote that for a while, the bullying really affected Madden; it seemed to break his spirit. So when she saw a photo of the cat with a cleft lip and heterochromia on a Facebook community group of mothers of children with cleft lip and palate, Humphreys knew immediately that the cat was meant to be a part of their family.
With the support of friends and some generous strangers, the family traveled interstate across Missouri, Iowa, and Minnesota to pick up sweet Moon.
“We’re usually not spontaneous people,” Humphreys writes. “But we knew that we were meant to love this kitty.”
Since bringing Moon home, Madden and his special friend have been inseparable.
They even have an Instagram page for posting photos of their shenanigans.
Christina told Love What Matters: “I’m stunned at how this all played out. It sounds silly, but fate willed these two together. There’s no other explanation. This kitty was so far away from us. I’m amazed that we found out about him, and even more amazed by the friends and strangers that helped us get to him, and adopt him.
“Everyone needs a friend, and everyone needs to feel understood. I’m so thankful Madden has Moon. Not only so that both he and the kitty have a relatable and sweet companion, but also, I hope Moon helps Madden realize that being born unique in an incredible thing; that he is magic. These two handsome guys truly are a wonder.”
