There are a lot of jobs out there that will allow you to spend your days helping cats…but none of them may be quite as overwhelmingly adorable as working in a kitten nursery. On the surface, it may be hard to understand why kitten nurseries exist– can’t kittens just live in shelters with the adult cats? Put simply, no. Kittens require a much higher level of attention and care than they could get in a traditional animal shelter. For instance, young kittens need to be fed every couple of hours and require tons of petting, playing, and cuddling in order to become properly socialized for adoption.
Imgur user BeccaNR works in one of these kitten nurseries and has blessed the internet with lots of photos of the babies she has worked with. Her nursery cares for kittens from 0 days to around 8 weeks old, when they are ready to be spayed/neutered and adopted.
This baby would fit in the palm of your hand!
It’s important for kittens to become socialized to people, but it’s also important for them to be comfortable with other cats. Plus, kittens need rough-and-tumble playmates.
Here’s some more teeny tiny kitten cuddling. Oh my goodness!!
In a kitten nursery, the workers become surrogate parents and have to teach the kittens how to eat.
The kitten nursery workers bottle feed the youngest kittens until they’re old enough to experiment with wet or dry food.
Just like their more mature counterparts, sometimes the kittens sleep in the most ridiculous places and positions.
